Purpose Of Your Baptism

The above question is of extreme importance. Why? Because many people have undergone some action that they thought was baptism, but in truth merely obeyed a practice taught as doctrine by some church, which cannot be found in the Bible (Matt. 15:7-9; Gal. 1:6-9). Since this matter pertains to our salvation, we cannot afford to simply take it for granted.

Consider carefully the following Scriptures and then note the difference between Bible baptism and baptism as it is often taught by man.

Bible: “He who believes and is baptized will be saved” (Mark 16:16).

Man: “He that believes is saved and should be baptized as a symbol of his salvation, but if he is not baptized he won’t be lost.”

Bible: “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38).

Man: “Repent and be baptized because your sins have already been forgiven.”

Bible: “And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord” (Acts 22:16).

Man: “Arise and be baptized because your sins have already been washed away.”

Bible: “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ” (Gal. 3:27).

Man: “For as many as have been baptized were already in Christ and already put on Christ.”

Bible: “There is also an antitype which now saves us – baptism” (I Peter 3:21).

Man: “Baptism does not now save us.”

The Bible teaches us that there is only “one baptism” (Ephesians 4:5), but in the religious world many things are taught about baptism that do not line up with the New Testament. The purpose of baptism as taught in the Bible is “for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38; 22:16; Mark 16:16; I Peter 3:21). So, were you taught the truth or man’s error in regard to the purpose of your baptism? Please think about this seriously and carefully!
