Abortion Bill HB2

On July 12 the Texas Senate “passed tough, new abortion restrictions after weeks of protests,”

sending House Bill 2 to Governor Rick Perry to sign into law. “Republicans used their majority to pass the bill nearly three weeks after a filibuster by Democratic Sen. Wendy Davis and an outburst by abortion-rights supporters in the Senate gallery disrupted a deadline vote” (foxnews.com).

“House Bill 2 would require doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals, allow abortions only in surgical centers, limit where and when women may take abortion-inducing pills and ban abortions after 20 weeks. Only five out of 42 existing abortion clinics meet the requirements to be a surgical center, and clinic owners say they can’t afford to upgrade or relocate” (Ibid).

I’m happy this bill will be passed into law, but it is not restrictive enough. I hope and pray for the day to come that abortion is banned altogether. Life begins at conception, not birth. Birth is one day in the life of a person who is already nine months old.

God said to the prophet Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations” (Jer. 1:5). The psalmist David declared: “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them” (Ps. 139:13-16).

I’m sure our readers will recall the 11-hour filibuster of this bill by Sen. Wendy Davis back on June 25th. I’m sorry, but I don’t get that. Why would you oppose a bill that restricts a mother from aborting (killing) her baby after 20 weeks? By twenty weeks, a mother is half way through the entire pregnancy. At only 3 weeks “the backbone, spinal column, and nervous system
are forming. The kidneys, liver, and intestines are taking shape. The heart begins to beat at about 20 days and is pumping blood through the circulatory system. At two months the mother can hear the baby’s heartbeat through an ultrasonic stethoscope” (cpforlife.org).

Why large protests against saving the lives of innocent children? Again, I’m very confused. As the bill was being passed, protesters were shouting “Shame! Shame! Shame!” How about “Shame!” on a nation that has sanctioned the abortion of over 56 million babies since the Supreme Court ruling of Roe vs. Wade?

One of the things the LORD hates and is an abomination to Him are “hands that shed innocent blood” (Prov. 6:16-17). In Jeremiah 6:15, God asked, “Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No! They were not at all ashamed; nor did they know how to blush.”

A woman’s right: her body, her life, her decision? No. “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (I Cor. 6:19-20).
